Action182.com recently interviewed Isaac Rentz, the director of blink-182′s ‘Up All Night’ & ‘After Midnight’ music videos. Thanks to Bruno of Action182 for sharing!
How did the oportunity of directing the first music video from blink-182 came?
The band’s record label sent me the track and asked me to come up with some ideas. I listened to it 100 times and I kept imagining frustrated kids in a world without parents. It just seemed right for the song, which has these really heavy breakdowns, but also big melodies that feel kind of melancholy and lonely.
You’re directing, but who did the screenplay? Was it a collaboration with the band or was it written by you?
The band was very open to letting me come up with the idea myself. They had a few minor changes after they read the script, but they were very trusting. They’ve done a lot of videos, and Tom in particular is a big film buff, so I was surprised at how much freedom they gave me.
