Mark Starts Filming ‘A Different Spin’ Tomorrow in LA

Mark posted on Facebook:

Filming a segment for A Different Spin tomorrow here in LA. The show begins airing in September, but we’re starting some of it this week. So if you see a dude with spiky hair in front a camera, stammering like an idiot and trying too hard to be funny, it may be me. Between blink-182 writing, rehearsal, and filming the show, I plan on sleeping again sometime next weekend. Busy times!!

“blink-182 writing, rehearsal, and filming the show”…but sadly, no blink-182 recording. BUMMERRRRR.

  • matt

That’s because you have to write the songs before you record them. Its a long tedious process.

  • Ben

Yeah man it’s such a bummer how busy they are planning awesome things for the future. Totally sucks.

Well…Ben, Matt, I’ll be psyched as hell when the long tedious process of recording music is done, and we will all hear new blink-182 music. And considering it was a year and a half ago when they announced the reunion, promising a new tour and record. Tour? Check- saw them, they were awesome. New record? Well, we’ll have to wait and see about that. Seems to me they’ve not written a note or word, but are rehearsing for the Euro shows, and the one, 1, U.S show in September. I personally hope it’s done before we’re subjected to another Angels and Airwaves record. And “movie” lol.
Matt, watch yer fuckin’ mouth, dude!

We should wager on how many songs are on the “upcoming” album, how many songs have Mark and Tom vocals, and how many songs they have by themselves. My guess is 13 songs. I’ll go 4 Mark, 3 Tom, 5 with both of them, and 1 travis interlude.

Either way, though I thought the self titled album was great. This time around i’m hoping for a little less Tom. I’ve listened to that album a countless number of times and I think this is the first time i’ve realized there seems to be way more Tom vocals than Mark.

Tom might have to keep his vocals at a minimum for this album. i mean, with all these angels and airwaves records and tours. Don’t want Tom’s voice to get wore out.

I agree with you pete! Its been a long 5 years and I’m anxious to hear some new material! I believe they’re working on music while rehearsing, by my own experience; sometimes going through songs you’ve already written can provide the motivation and ingenuity to create new ones… However I don’t think they are even close to the recording stage, first comes ideas, then comes demoing, then comes ellaborating and constructing ideas for the song, then recording followed by more constructing. I have faith though, these guys haven’t let me down once. Its a good year for new music to come out! The Riverdales just released a new album, Screeching Weasel is back together and touring and soon releasing an album, The Queers are working on a new one, Green Day is working on a new one (the plus side to that is they say its gonna go back to their roots and old style; we’ll see). I just hope the Blink album is out this year. One last thing though, when on a fan site dedicated to a band known for their antics and bad language, it doesn’t seem right to tell someone to watch their own language. However, you don’t seem like a dick so next time, I’ll censor it. Unless it deals with heartattack… they can blow me.

I think it’ll be more Mark this time. 12 songs. 7 Mark, 5 Tom. All will have both singing, whether it be back ground vocals or specific segments in the song. Sort of like “Stockholm Syndrome”, it was more or less Mark’s song but split between the two, another example would be “Feeling This”. I think this album is gonna be extremely collaborative. Although I do wish they’d put a heavier edge on things… I liked the sound of “Go” on the last album, and Tom’s voice is perfect for that. They would sound amazing if they could mix the raw energy of “Dude Ranch”, the pop sensibility of “Enema” and the creativity and growth of “Untitled” together. I definitely feel Blink has always been better song writers on the more “punk” influenced side of things. That’s what I fell in love with and that’s what I’d love to hear.

i have a feeling the new album will be considered to be their best work together. one step further along then the self titled album. the last album had more tom, but if i remember from listening to previous albums mark has usually had more songs. their voices go so well together, but although i think mark is a better performer, tom is the better musician and has the more unique voice. i think a big reason why their last album was so good was because tom pushed for that after his box car racer album. more serious songs. and then he took it a step further with angels & airwaves. which a lot of people may think it’s good, but it’s not great and maybe missing something, mark’s input and creativity.

they did a lot of experimenting and tried out different ideas on the last record, and i think we can expect the same the next one. i hope so anyway, i don’t want another album like enema of the state or take off your pants and jacket. good albums, but that would be a step back, they have grown up since then, and so have their fans who would have been teenagers when those albums came out. i’m staying optimistic, and then for the ava fans, a new album will probably come out a year after the blink record drops. and i actually think mark might eventually make a solo record with all different artists like he did with pete wentz for the alice in wonderland soundtrack.

they say they plan on releasing the blink album in summer of 2011 don’t they? is that around june, july in america?

I think in this new album is going to have
5 mark and tom with vocals
    3 mark
    3 tom
    and an interlude

    12 songs I belive
and maybe 3 or 2 secret or extra songs like “another girl another planet” and “not now”

  • matt

I hope not… “Fallen Interlude” was lame… They can do away with that and “I’m Lost Without You”… That kinda sucked too. I understand experimenting but, there’s a limit as well… Hopefully the line between AVA and Blink has been drawn clearly and a specific separation of the two will stand.

  • Pete

I think it will be about 50/50 Mark and Tom as it normally is. While I guess I “prefer” Marks tunes to Tom’s, I find +44 “lacking” something: Tom! lol, but in my opinion, even Mark’s input wouldn’t help Angels and Airwaves. Cannot get into them no matter how hard I try.
Anyway, I’m just going to need to be a little more patient, because when the new album is released, I know I’m going to love it.

  • matt

“We Don’t Need To Whisper” was a good solid album as well as “Love”, but “I-Empire” sucked donkey dick. I don’t mind AVA, I wouldn’t see them live, but Tom has a way of writing the most depressing fucking songs ever; those certainly serve their purpose when the mood is right.

hey, you guys should join the forums to talk about the album
    http://www.182online.com/forum/ucp.php?mode=register

  • matt

Yeah, maybe but its easier to just do it on this from my phone… Sooo… Since I’m lazy; I’m gonna pass on the forum.

  • matt

No, cause then it will censor my abusive, offensive, vulgar language.

    I tried :D

  • Joey

I agree on the i’m lost without you comment. There’s only 2 or 3 Blink songs that I haven’t listened to a countless number of times and that’s one of them.

As far as what i’m hoping to hear…. I really don’t know.

My favorite Blink album is take off your pants and jacket, but I know that sound at this point in their career is unlikely. It would be pretty crazy if they went back to more of a “punk” style like Dude Ranch. I Think that’d be pretty awesome.

I think a punk “pop” ish type album, expanding on songs like feeling this would be cool. I think they have a unique harmony together that is unlike any other band.

I guess with Angels and Airwaves, and Plus 44. I’m hoping to hear something a little more upbeat. I know things are shitty for most people, but make an album to help people escape that for a little bit.

  • justin

the difference between angels & airwaves was the lyrics and music tries to be positive and upbeat, whereas +44 was maybe the opposite of that. kinda negative. i’m hoping the new blink record could be the mixture of the two, a few long intro’s like the self titled album, some spacy intro’s, but not too much and some cool riffs like +44 had, and a few light hearted songs like feeling this, but also songs like adam’s song and stay together for the kids were amazing songs too, so a mixture of all that i think could be a successful album.
