Guitar Center Interview With Tom

Frontman, guitarist, producer, songwriter, businessman—these are some of the many hats that musician Tom DeLonge has worn throughout his past dozen-plus years in the music scene, whether as the on-stage co-lead to bassist Mark Hoppus in platinum pop-punk powerhouse Blink-182 or as the sole frontman of the more experimental, alternative rock act Angels and Airwaves. Or perhaps it’s as the head of Macbeth Shoes or the visionary behind the social networking website Modlife. No matter which angle he’s viewed from, DeLonge’s years in both the underground and mainstream circuits have found him delivering interesting and important perspectives on the ever-changing entertainment industry, specifically in terms of tastes, technologies and traditions

  • Rain_estonia

    some very smart words.go Tom!

  • dandan

Screw tom. He hardly even cares about blink. He’s too occupied with his ego aka ava

  • Wot

D-dawg… that’s what people DO in interviews..

  • Lamb

To the “d-dawg” guy have you ever seen an interview where the person being interviewed doesn’t talk about themselves ?

I think its a good interview tom’s pretty awesome in this, interesting to see his whole perspective not just on AVA and Blink but on music and promotion in general

He says, art is about the tons of people who actually hear it and appreciate it to listen to, instead of the creative process before the music is being made. But isn’t art about making something different from what already exists, but from your own point of view, instead of thinking how may other people like it? Art is something that depends on your point of view on the world, not the view the majority has about something. It can combine sometimes, but the starting point is the creater or better the ARTist.
Or does he put the word ART in another perspective by meaning not the piece of art itself, but what follows out of the creative process?
I personally think he distinguishes the meaning of art, in two ways that you cannot distinguish because it has a different meaning on a different level.

Maybe I just don’t understand this, but I thought it was remarkable and one of his core subjects, and I was kinda interested in what he means.
I think he has a great vision about music making and spreading it and that he is an innovator at many levels of musicindustry.

have you ever noticed that Tom has the best metaphors…
notice in the first video, i really like the “you can make a square glass skyscraper but the twisting insides of the build is infinite is infinite” is i recall correctly… idk

  • D-dawg

Wot, i know. I’m just gonna say the exact same thing i said before: “Nothing too interesting. It’s just Tom Talking about himself again. =]”. That is all. =]

Tbh the buisness 2.0 video is very inspiring and Tom really does have good knowledge of the buisness and has some creative ways to go around it and do somthing different.

He really is speaking about things he knows about and theres none of the shit piss fuck side of Tom atall. It reminds me of being in college.

I recomend budding musicians / bands out there have a listen and make note of what he is saying.

  • ava sucks my shlong

    Ava still sucks my shlong

  • dsg182

Very sad that tom still thinks AVA is a good band, im still waiting for them to put out a decent song, that isnt ripped off from another band, i mean how many riffs has tom ripped off from blink for ava?? haha common, i love blink, but i think they shouldnt make a new cd, tom will only kill it, watching him talk proves it, hes all about tom only!

    go +44
